-- Joule Platform to Help One of UK's Largest Universities Deliver Strategic Plan
LONDON, May 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Middlesex University has selected Joule®, Moodlerooms' enterprise learning management platform, to create a virtual learning environment for its 40,000 students. Joule, based on the open-source Moodle software, will help the University in its drive to virtualise teaching, learning and assessment.
An international university with an established reputation for innovative academic programmes, high quality learning and teaching and a rapidly growing research reputation, Middlesex invited supplier bids in December 2012 to support plans for the development of the next generation of technology supported learning. Middlesex officials chose Joule over other options for its robust, reliable and scalable platform with flexible features including course templating, advanced grading, and integration with existing university systems.
"Many institutions talk about putting classes online, but not as many have placed so many resources into crafting the highest quality virtual learning environment for students," said Paula Vickers, Director of Computing and Communications Systems Service at Middlesex. "By partnering with Moodlerooms, we have the ability to execute our vision using the robust Joule platform, and also have peace of mind that our hard work will be protected and supported by an industry leader."
The decision is part of the university's new strategic plan and academic strategy, which aim to sustain the institution's academic quality, enhance the student experience, and grow revenue and productivity. Middlesex staff and students will use Joule at each of its campuses in London, Dubai, Mauritius and Malta.
"Our aim is to provide students with contemporary learning and teaching experiences that enable them to develop knowledge and skills they can use to begin and develop successful professional careers," said Dr. Nicky Torrance, Director of Learning and Teaching. "Integrating the use of technology supported learning throughout their programmes of study and providing our students with the opportunities to develop digital skills within a modern online learning environment will enable them to develop skills valued by employers across the world."
