BEDFORD, Massachusetts, March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hologic, Inc., is sponsoring a symposium highlighting the emerging use of their 3D mammography (breast tomosynthesis) systems in population-based cancer screening at the annual meeting of the European Society of Radiology in Vienna, Austria on Friday, March 6th from 14:00 to 15:30 in Room C of the Austria Center - Vienna. Radiologists from screening sites in the U.S., Norway, Italy and Spain will share their experiences and early results from implementing 3D mammography in their screening programs.
The lead speaker is Dr. Sarah Friedewald, first author on the largest study published to date on the benefits of 3D mammography in screening. Published in JAMA (the Journal of the American Medical Association) in June 2014, Dr. Friedewald and her colleagues found that 3D mammography when used in screening finds significantly more invasive cancers than a traditional mammogram while significantly reducing the number of women called back for unnecessary testing due to false alarms.
