Major mergers in the agri marketplace: what's the impact on global investment?
LONDON, Oct. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Recent large-scale consolidations in the ag sector, such as Bayer AG’s $66bn deal with U.S.-based Monsanto Co., are changing the industry dynamics. Additional recent impending mergers – Dow Chemical and DuPont, and Agrium and Potash Corp – have raised skeptics on both sides, with concern that with fewer players in the sector, there is more chance for domination, leading to limited farmer choice and bargaining power, and ultimately higher prices in the grocery aisles. "Investing in the ag asset class will be swayed by the transfer of power in these leading companies," said Ziskind.
