Lab Efficiency Tops the Poll as no.1 Priority for Laboratory Informatics Professionals

The SmartLab Exchange releases results of industry benchmarking report:
- 58% stated improving lab efficiency as a key priority
- 49% find successfully integrating data and systems of critical importance
- 28% are implementing solutions to share information on an internal and external basis
The SmartLab Exchange recently surveyed their global community of CIOs and Global/Regional Heads of Laboratory Informatics, R&D, QA, QC, Data Automation, Enterprise Integration and Infrastructure to uncover the key drivers behind investments in laboratory informatics solutions, and have collated the findings in a report.
Michael Shanler, Gartner's most forward thinking analyst on laboratory informatics will be speaking at the SmartLab Exchange in Munich about the forces and trends that will impact the lab informatics industry for years to come, many of which are highlighted in the report.
Results showed that for 58% of respondents the question at the forefront of their minds is: "How can I deliver the same amount of quality with fewer resources?" The common goal of respondents is finding solutions that will enable their labs to run more efficiently, with the aim of implementing new technologies that will increase productivity globally.
This is one of the topics that Arnaud Sartre, Global Business Lead - LIMS at Pfizer will cover when he joins the SmartLab Exchange on the February 26th, 2013 to share a how-to guide for improving workflow automation levels in laboratories.
The report shows that the second most important area of focus is integration, with 49% of respondents stating this is of critical importance.
Integration of data and equipment within the organisation and with third parties is not only a priority, but lab informatics professionals are also facing increasing complexity as the amount of partners and data continues to rise.
The SmartLab Exchange will host a second workshop on February 26th where attendees will break into industry specific groups to discuss how to intelligently integrate multi-systems for better productivity within their organisations.
Implementing solutions to better manage the flow of data between sites was also within the top priorities of survey respondents, with 28% wanting to better distribute and share information externally and internally. Laboratory informatics professionals are looking for systems that can efficiently allow them to share data throughout their labs world-wide, as well as finding ways to better manage the data flow when working with external companies.
At the SmartLab Exchange participants will also get the opportunity to hear from two of the world's leading laboratories about how to achieve smart knowledge sharing and successfully work with third parties.
