Job Opportunites in Estate Agency Sector Rose Sharply in January, Says reed.co.uk

Reed Job Index Tracker up 24 points to reach two-year high

The number of job opportunities created within the estate agency sector rose sharply in January, up 24 index points compared to December, according to published data from the UK's largest job site, reed.co.uk. Employer demand for new employees rebounded well from a pre-Christmas slump in December to give the sector a Reed Job Index reading of 146- the highest recorded since the Index began back in 2009.

Since then, which saw a baseline of 100 first set, the number of jobs created within the estate agency sector has incrementally risen by 55%. The job site claims a continued supply of jobs in London is helping boost employment figures within the Industry overall, as the housing market continues to perform well in the Capital despite stagnate housing growth elsewhere.

Industry experts claim the London housing market has 'boomed' since the turn of the year, resulting in many estate agencies looking to open new high-street branches in and around central London, while of course creating more job opportunities.

But it's not just the number of job opportunities which crept up within the sector: salaries also increased in January. A climb of 12 points was recorded by the Reed Salary Index Tracker- in contrast to overall salaries nationally, which decreased by one index point.

Job demand rose across fourteen of the sectors 'tracked' by reed.co.uk in January. Overall, the Reed Job Index was up 2 points in January. Most new jobs were created in sales and retail, unsurprising considering the busy festive season. However jobs in construction also saw a marked increase. Regionally, most new opportunities were created in the East Midlands (up 5 Job Index points) and the North-East of England (up 9 Job Index points).
