Tailored security solutions for the offshore industry
The Norwegian based company IPnett will deliver its SHIELD solution which is designed and developed specifically for the Oil and gas industry.
A large oil platform has a complex IT infrastructure, where operations are run both onshore and offshore. IPnett SHIELD is designed to reduce vulnerability in the day-to-day operations of the platform. SHIELD allows specialists to securely access and operate all IT systems through one central control unit ashore, explains Marius Brekke, managing director at IPnett.
SHIELD will be implemented on top the established infrastructure as a protective shield. The estimate contract value is 18 million NOK over a five-year period.
Full operational control
SHIELD was developed for GDF SUEZ and their operations at the Gjøa oilfield.
IPnett SHIELD has been in the market for several years. It has proven to be a system that meets the challenge on both internal and external access. You no longer need to fly people back and forth to the platforms to upgrade systems or run maintenance work in compliance with security recommendations. This enables full operational control, easier administration, and more efficient maintenance of the IT systems, explains Brekke.
An end-to-end solution
The project is delivered as an end-to-end solution that includes solution design, hardware, software, technical delivery, project management, training, support and operations.
IPnett is highly committed to this project. We see great potential in this market, and we will continue our development on the IPnett SHIELD solution to ensure that we have the best admission control solution in the market, Brekke continues.
Exciting opportunities in the north
The Goliat oil field is located in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea, being one of the first in a series of oil fields going into production.
A harsher climate in the Arctic region makes it even more important to be able to remotely access, maintain and update IT applications and systems. Disruptions due to IT system failures would traditionally require operators to fly out to the platform. With IPnett SHIELD, onshore operators can optimize the operation of the platform despite of weather conditions.
Oil and gas extraction will take place in harsher environments in the future. Avoiding disruptions will be vital. We are pleased to be able to help ENI in running the operation smoothly, Marius Brekke concludes.
