INPS Chooses MobileIron to Secure and Manage BYOD Programme

- Clinical Software Solutions Company Deploys MDM to Support True Multi-OS Mobile Environment

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In Practice Systems (INPS), a supplier of clinical software solutions, has implemented the MobileIron platform to support a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme, provide visibility and control of its fleet of corporate devices, and ultimately provide a foundation for the secure use of mobile applications. MobileIron provides security and management for mobile apps, content, and devices.

In a bid to move beyond the traditional corporate-owned BlackBerry, INPS wanted to offer its workforce a way of using their personal devices for work, whether it be iOS, BlackBerry, Android or Windows Phone.

Angelo Chrysanthou, Head of Information Systems, at INPS explains, "We're a company that seeks to let staff work the way they want to work. It's hard to say 'no' to employees asking to use their own devices - especially if that employee happens to be an executive. INPS began searching for a reliable MDM platform that would enable it to manage both corporate and personal devices. The company turned to its technology partner, Appurity, who recommended MobileIron. Steve Whiter, Director at Appurity, explains:

"INPS wanted to maintain the same control over employee-owned devices as it does over corporate-owned BlackBerry devices. In addition, due to the sensitivity of the company's operations, one of the most important things about the solution was that they would be able to secure emails and corporate data on personal smartphones and tablets. Chrysanthou continues, "We quickly decided MobileIron would be the best solution for setting and enforcing policies around whatever smartphone or tablet our employees happen to bring into the workplace."

With MobileIron in place, INPS has opened up its network to a broad range of devices. The company will continue to provide BlackBerrys to 50 percent of employees who need mobile access but now also has personal devices gradually filtering onto the network as a result of the BYOD programme. Chrysanthou explains:

"When you launch BYOD for the first time, there's an important cultural shift that has to take place. You have to ensure you have communicated both the benefits and the restrictions of the programme. We now have the capabilities to enforce policies and restrictions across virtually any end client coming onto the corporate network. Now fully up and running with BYOD, we are expecting to have more than 10 percent of our workforce bringing their own devices, which we will secure with MobileIron."

Chrysanthou concludes, "My IS department isn't here to make the business follow rules – if one employee wants to bring in their iPad to enable them to be more productive then it's our job to figure out how to make that work. MobileIron gives us the flexibility and security to do exactly that."

Moving forward INPS is also planning to eventually deploy MobileIron's enterprise app storefront for the deployment and secure sharing of apps across the business.
