Hybrid Specialist Urges Domestic Consumers "Funding for Renewable Energy is Not Hot Air"

With the publication of three consultations on the Coalition's Renewable Heat Incentive scheme (RHI) announced today (20^th September) one installer is warning that homeowners may have missed out on opportunities to fund renewable heating projects through government grants and vouchers in the past and may still do in the future.

Whilst welcoming the publication of the consultations, Hybrid Heating Systems operation director Tim Bennett feels that customers may be missing out on funding opportunities for their projects due to a basic lack of awareness:

"There are fantastic opportunities out there to get your renewable heating project up and running and we would urge customers to take advantage of them whilst funding lasts. We specialise in air-to-water heat pumps and if you are off gas you can get a voucher of up to £850 to aid with that project but we know that knowledge of these schemes is fairly limited amongst many UK consumers."

Hybrid Heating Systems has already successfully worked with rural community groups to secure major grants for house holders who heat their home with Oil, LPG, Electricity or Solid Fuel (The Renewable Heat Premium Payment Phase 2 Community Scheme).

They are now working with Glow-worm and Dimplex to help customers reduce their energy bills by up to 50% and their carbon footprint by 40% by installing air source heat pumps. These units extract the existing 'free energy' very efficiently from the air outside the home even when it is relatively cold.

The theory behind it is similar to that of a fridge but in reverse - heat is absorbed from the air into the refrigerant which then heats water up to 55 deg C that can be used in your existing heating system.

"My message is that if you are looking at renewable heating solutions you need to find out more about these schemes. The Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme - Phase 2 will run until 31st March 2013 and is a bridge to the new domestic Renewable Heat Incentive scheme. This will produce an income for renewable heating installations in a similar manner to the PV feed-in tariff for generation of electricity, so get your applications in as soon as you can."

The Renewable Heat Premium Payment and the Renewable Heat Incentive are UK Government initiatives designed to help homeowners afford renewable technologies for their home, once installed the benefits of an air source heat pump installation are a cheaper, safer and more environmentally friendly way of heating your home.
