A Crowning Moment in Andermatt Swiss Alps
Andermatt Swiss Alps is celebrating a milestone today as the outer shell of The Hotel Chedi Andermatt is completed and the roof is placed in position. Over the last seven months, 250 construction workers have completed the outer shell of the building and were at the heart of the celebrations today. The Chedi Andermatt is a unique 5-star superior hotel and will be the first European property by the well-known luxury hotel group Chedi. It will open as planned at the end of 2013 and set new hospitality standards for the Alpine region.
Attendees at the celebrations included Samih Sawiris, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Orascom Development Holding, Gérard Jenni, Managing Director of Andermatt Swiss Alps AG, representatives from The Chedi operating company General Hotel Management Ltd., construction and building enterprises along with planners and architects. A number of prominent local political and business representatives were also in attendance to express their Congratulations. Everyone enjoyed the traditional customs of a topping-out ceremony with the carpenter's pledge and the erection of a pine sapling on the roof ridge.
"This is an important milestone and a significant moment in the development of this exceptional new year-round holiday destination in the heart of the Swiss Alps," explained Samih Sawaris. "Everyone has done excellent work. We are on schedule and very much looking forward to the opening of this hotel jewel in winter 2013-2014."
With the completion of the roof construction and the installation of the windows, interior building work at The Chedi Andermatt can continue throughout the coming winter months. In the weeks to come, work will resume on the façade and the installation of the technical building systems. Mock-up apartments and hotel rooms will be available at the beginning of 2012 to allow interested visitors to get a glimpse of the first-class furnishings that are to come. Meanwhile, the residential block is also now at an advanced stage of construction with the lower floors all completed as planned.
Notable architects and specialist planners from Switzerland and abroad are responsible for the extraordinary interior and exterior spaces of this project. Jean-Michel Gathy at Denniston International Architects and Planners Ltd. in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is in charge of overall planning. The execution of the work is carried out in cooperation with the local architects Germann & Achermann AG from Altdorf, Switzerland. The restaurants have been devised by the Design Studio Spin in Tokyo, Japan whilst the lighting concept bears the signature style of Nathan Thompson at The Flaming Beacon in Melbourne, Australia. Brenda Ramen, Director of Spas at the hotel operator, is responsible for the luxurious spa centre. She most recently completed the exceptional wellness area at the new Hotel The Chedi in Muscat, Oman.
As with all of the properties in Andermatt Swiss Alps, the Hotel The Chedi Andermatt is built in compliance with the Minergie standard. Traditional materials such as wood, natural stone and glass are sourced from the region and lend a modern "Alpine Chic" feel to the property.
The Chedi Andermatt offers numerous highlights over its 40,000 m2: 50 hotel guestrooms from 55 m2 to 100 m2, 64 apartments, six penthouses and one suite in the hotel building; 42 residences and seven lofts in neighboring hotel buildings; two restaurants, one lounge, various bars and an exclusive wellness oasis along with 170 underground parking spaces. The apartments and residences vary between 96 m2 and 550 m2. The Chedi Andermatt is constructed on the site of the former Hotel Bellevue which had a long tradition as the luxury hotel of Andermatt from 1872 to 1986.

Andermatt Swiss Alps AG
