BMG Foundation Calls on International Business Community to Follow Her Majesty's Lead in Backing the Our Water, Our Life Campaign
H.M. The Queen attended the 2011 GCC Polo Cup as a special guest of the Saudi Royal Family and The BMG Foundation to promote the conservation of water across the Middle East and Africa.
The GCC Polo Cup is an annual charity tournament held in Guards Polo Club, Windsor, UK, the proceeds from which are donated to international environmental and humanitarian causes. The event is hosted by the BMG Foundation as a global appeal to businesses and merchant families for their support. H.M. The Queen and Prince Turki Bin Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, son of the Saudi King attended the event as ambassadors for the Our Water, Our Life campaign.
The BMG Foundation, an international CSR organisation, recently launched the Our Water, Our Life campaign to raise awareness of the water scarcity crisis affecting the Middle East where 37.7 million Arabs have no access to clean water. According to recent UN figures, 40% of the world population do not have access to proper water sanitation which causes an estimated 4,900 children to die every day from diarrhoea.
Chairman and Founder of the BMG Foundation, Basil Al-Ghalayini said:
"The scarcity of water is an increasing global concern and one which is particularly close to my heart. We launched the Our Water, Our Life campaign to increase awareness of the plight that faces our global community. We must encourage people to change their bad habits, and take collective action and responsibility for water conservation - we must act now.
"Water is a key natural resource and one that should be readily available for all, and not be merely reserved for the privileged."
The Our Water, Our Life campaign has raised tens of thousands of pounds during the initial phase of the initiative.
