Henry Kissinger Joins Supervisory Board of the Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe

Dr. Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State and Nobel Peace Prize holder, has joined the Supervisory Board of the International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe.

Dr. Kissinger has played a prominent role in global politics for over five decades. He served as 56th Secretary of State of the United States, and held the position of National Security Advisor under Presidents Nixon and Ford. He is credited with negotiating the reduction of nuclear armaments through the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks and the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. Dr. Kissinger was awarded the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize for his negotiation of the Paris Peace accords and bringing about the ceasefire ending the Vietnam War. He remains an internationally respected influential figure on contemporary foreign affairs.

The principal guiding bodies of the Forum are the International Advisory Council and the Supervisory Board. Members of the Supervisory Board advise on the activities of the Forum, a high-profile public entity aimed at strengthening international peace and security.

The Forum's president is Dr. Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor. Almost ten years since its inception in 2007, Luxembourg Forum has held 25 conferences, workshops and working meetings in Moscow, Washington, D.C., London, Berlin, Luxembourg, Rome, Vienna, Geneva, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Prague and Warsaw.

The International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe was established by decision of the International Conference on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe, held 24-25 May 2007 in Luxembourg. The Advisory Council comprises more than 50 of the most authoritative and best-known international experts from 14 different countries. 

The Forum is one of the most representative non-governmental organizations to bring together leading international experts in the field of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and arms reduction and limitation. The main tasks of the Forum are to analyze threats of proliferation of nuclear weaponry and to draw up specific proposals and recommendations as to further ways of reducing nuclear weapons, strengthening nuclear and missile non-proliferation regimes, preventing attempts to acquire nuclear weapons and technologies by unstable regimes and terrorist organizations and of resolving regional nuclear crises.
