Group Depicts Breaking News: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Announces Peace in the Middle East
JERUSALEM, May 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
- Video coincides with Prime Minister's Speech before United States Congress
As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares to address the United States Congress on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, Believe 2011, an international group of peace activists today posted a video online depicting their hopes and aspirations for the Israeli leader's speech.
The video, available online at http://www.youtube.com/user/believemay2011, resembles that of a breaking news segment on a 24-hour international news network.
"We have historic breaking news to report this evening," the video begins. "In a sudden turn of events, highly placed government sources can now confirm that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to recognize an independent, democratic Palestinian state in what is certain to be an historic step towards a peace agreement in the Middle East."
The video - which mashes together actual words, phrases and statements previously made by Prime Minister Netanyahu - creates the impression that a tentative peace agreement has been reached between Israel and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
"We hope Prime Minister Netanyahu sees this video and hears his own voice declaring peace," reads a note left by the video's creators on their YouTube channel. "Prime Minister Netanyahu can end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict today by giving this speech and restore peace and hope to the world and to the people of Israel. We must not squander this historic opportunity for peace."
