LONDON, October 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
London-based Christmas tree delivery service, http://www.goodelf.co.uk has reported its earliest sales to date, with commercial and non-commercial orders arriving earlier than any previous year. Chris Shorey started the Good Elf business back in 2004 and during his 12 years in the business, he has seen sales made through his website begin earlier year on year.
Shorey commented:
"The vast bulk of our sales occur in the first week of November, with a few sales here and there beforehand. However, this year we have seen a steady stream of sales from mid-September. This is extremely early for us, but fortunately we were well prepared.
"This is a sure sign that people are getting better prepared for the festive season and is perhaps a result of the 'Christmas creep', which is creeping well into October and even into September."
Christmas Creep is a merchandising tactic first used in the mid-80s, which exploits the commercialisation of Christmas by extending the festive shopping season. A recent study carried out in the US suggests that the tactic annoys the vast majority of shoppers. 71% of shoppers say that they feel annoyed when they see Christmas items prior to Halloween. However, Chris Shorey thinks shoppers should embrace the extended festivities:
"For many people, Christmas is the happiest time of year. The fact that Christmas is getting longer is surely a good thing and I, for one, love it!"
Further research in the UK has shown that Christmas shopping officially begins this Friday at 635pm, as four out of ten shoppers will hit the high street after work to buy the first of their festive gifts.
Christmas has well and truly begun!
