The industrial DeNOx systems and services market is segmented into two categories namely, SCR and SNCR. The overall market is growing at a significant rate, driven by the stringent regulations in developed countries and rising demand in the emerging economies. The growth will also be fuelled by increasing number of investments in the end-user industry sectors such as thermal power plants, cement, metal processing units, paper and pulp, etc.
The global demand for SNCR systems is increasing rapidly as it finds increasing number of application in industrial boilers. Key end-user industries such as cement manufacture, paper and pulp, glass manufacture, waste incineration plants, waste to energy plants, etc. are more inclined towards SNCR to avoid huge initial capital investments and the high operating and maintenance costs.
China is the biggest market for sales of DeNOx systems and is expected to remain on the top at least for the next five years. The indigenous power companies have their own subsidiaries that supply DeNOx systems. These subsidiaries will be an entry barrier for foreign players to expand their market in China. However, with low costs and better after sales service, it is possible to tap the huge Chinese market.
Currently, there are no direct regulations on industrial NOx emissions in key countries such as India and the U.K. With regulations in place, the huge coal-fired power generation sector in these countries will be the biggest buyer for DeNOx systems and the associated services. Most of the plants in the U.K. control NOx emissions by installing primary control systems such as low NOx burners. The Industrial Emission Directive (ICD) of the European Union may mandate installation of secondary NOx control systems such as SCR or SNCR in the plants in U.K. after 2016 to control the NOx emissions below 200 mg/Nm3. In India, regulations and the compliance deadline are expected to be in place soon after the formation of stable government after the 2014 general elections.
