Global Automotive Lightweight Materials 2015 Takes Place Next Week With Renault, Jaguar Land Rover, Toyota, Audi AG & Bentley
LONDON, April 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Leading automotive manufacturers including Renault, Jaguar Land Rover, Toyota, Audi AG & Bentley are set to shortly reveal their success stories next week, demonstrating how to cost-effectively reduce vehicle weight for the mass market at the industry-renowned Global Automotive Lightweight Materials 2015 from 29th-30th April in London.
The business case for designing and manufacturing lighter weight vehicles is never-ending, as regulatory and consumer pressure drives innovations in multi-material architectures, component forming and joining methods. Each year, yet more kilograms of body, chassis and closures are trimmed in preparation for the fuel efficiency battle on global forecourts.
In an industry poll recently conducted by LBCG, 46% of industry professionals admitted the cost and time of multi-material joining is the biggest hindrance to further reducing vehicle weight. A further 29% felt the design challenges of new materials was the largest barrier, 17% were concerned about the cost of material supply and just 8% decided the forming of components was the biggest wall to shaving more grams from the car. With a renewed focus on multi-material design and manufacturing for high volume applications, the congress returns with a larger Body In White Exhibition, featuring the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar F-Type and Ford GT. Streamed sessions tailored to job function also feature, to ensure delegates take home a high level of detail and insights specific to their role.
John Johnston, Vice Director Body & Exterior at SAIC Motor who spoke at the conference last year said: "The key things that set this conference apart from other conferences: A lot of the time conferences are very general and broad. This conference is specifically about lightweight materials and the processes that go with it, so that's a key difference. Very specialist."
