Get Your Adrenaline Rushing - Skydiving Camp Arrives in Mysore
BANGALORE, October 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
A 10-day Camp Under the Guidance of Skydivers With Military Background
For years, Indian adventure enthusiasts have searched in far-off lands for sky diving opportunities - unarguably, the most thrilling adventure sport of all. However, their prayers have been answered. Skydiving has come to India, organised by Indian Skydiving and Parachute Association, and marketed by Thrillophilia, an adventure travel company.
Indian Skydiving and Parachute Association is holding a skydiving camp in Mysore. It is a 10-day schedule from 19 to 28 October. The camp will be conducted in 4 batches, with weekend and weekdays batches to choose from.
On the cards is a thrilling time as enthusiasts get to fly over the royal skyline of Mysore. Mohanasundar Radhakrishnan, President, Indian Skydiving and Parachute Association said, "We are offering tandem jumping opportunities and Static Line Jump opportunities, both of which are as adventurous as they get."
Tandem Jump is when a qualified skydiving pilot piggybacks an amateur on a sky dive. While a solo flight takes a long and rigorous training, a tandem jump can be made with an easy-to-follow 2 hours of training.
Static Line Jump is what is used by military personnel. A line from the parachute is attached to an aircraft and the parachute opens automatically as the jump is made.
When quipped about the safety of skydiving in India, Rajkumar Balakrishnan, a tandem jump master said, "We get a lot of queries about the safety of skydiving as an adventure sport. Most often, people ask us about scenarios where a parachute does not open, or something of that sort. People's apprehensions are not unfounded. Of course, it is risky. But we take every possible step to mitigate the risk. Candidates are explained every emergency in detail, and taught to deal with several different situations. Skydivers around the world have worked hard to make it a safe adventure sport."
He adds, "Each instructor with us has an experience of more than 2000 jumps. Whether it is a chief instructor or somebody in charge of ground handling, everyone holds a USPA D license. Most of us have a military background. I myself am a submariner."
According to general guidelines issued by the association, there are no hard criteria in order to be eligible for skydiving. If one is 16 years or above, does not have heart related problems or breathing problems, is not pregnant, and is not more than 90 kg in weight, he/she can take the jump.
