Frost & Sullivan recognizes e-Traction with the 2015 Global Technology Leadership Award in the Global Commercial Vehicle Electric Propulsion System Market
e-Traction ensures total customer satisfaction by offering superior electric powertrain technologies
MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, Sept. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the commercial vehicle electric propulsion system market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes e-Traction with the 2015 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Leadership. e-Traction has set new standards in electric powertrain and drivetrain technology by developing a best-in-class electric propulsion solution, TheMotion.

TheMotion comprises the three fundamental elements of electric drivetrain systems: TheWheel for world-class, direct-drive, synchronous motor propulsion solutions (SM series); TheDrive for high-voltage inverter solutions (MD series); and TheControl for powertrain control solutions (PCM series). These components are customer-focused, as proven by their flexibility of application as either stand-alone solutions or in various combinations. All of them work seamlessly together to provide unmatched energy efficiency and the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO).
"Currently, most industry participants globally require a license from e-Traction to make a fully functional gearless in-wheel motor with an outer rotor, as the company is the owner of a state-of-the-art patent portfolio on in-wheel electric drive technology," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Chandramowli Kailasam.
TheWheel enables high performance in electric MD and HD trucks and buses. For instance, a 12-meter city bus equipped with e-Traction's TheMotion system can achieve 80 percent more energy efficiency than conventional diesel buses. Compared to other electric drivelines e-Traction's zero-emission, fully electric drivelines for medium and heavy-duty vehicles, which can achieve 15% to 20% more energy efficiency. The strong simplification of the drivetrain results also in a fundamentally increased durability, reduced maintenance costs and increased flexibility in vehicle design.
While the global eVehicle industry has been targeting the small- to medium-sized vehicle market as the first step toward mass production of electrified vehicles, e-Traction has found greater purpose and potential in the electrification of medium and heavy-duty vehicles. The Company has been working closely for many years with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop hybrid, fully electric, and hydrogen fuel cell buses and trucks. TheMotion system is a scalable platform towards other applications such as urban distribution, harbor and airports vehicles.
e-Traction carefully aligns its products with customer requirements by understanding their duty cycle, performance expectation and cost boundaries, and eventually delivering tailor-made solutions for the best customer experience. A classic example is making the electric bus compliant with the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard and being the first European electric bus propulsion system manufacturer to do so. Furthermore, it provides insulation control, high-voltage relay switching, vehicle-to-grid power line communication, and other features to aid optimal e-Bus energy system safety and battery lifetime security.
"e-Traction has a dedicated team of engineers and experience in transferring knowledge to the licensees and helping them equip workshops with all the tools needed to develop any eMobility system," noted Kailasam. "By designing in line with the ISO:9001 quality management standard that incorporates advanced product quality planning (APQP), e-Traction ensures the conformity of its systems to automotive industry standards."
Overall, for its revolutionary product and process approach, strong pre-sales and after-sales services, and ability to lower the total cost of ownership ("TCO"), Frost & Sullivan is pleased to present e-Traction with the 2015 Technology Leadership Award.
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated uniqueness in developing and leveraging new technologies, which significantly impacts both the functionality and the customer value of the new products and applications. The award lauds the high R&D spend toward innovation, its relevance to the industry and the positive impact on brand perception.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development.
