Frost & Sullivan Lauds Webroot® for Rapidly Evolving To Meet Dynamic Customer Needs in the Endpoint Security Products Market
- Its proactive technologies can not only thwart against new strains of malware but also remediate attacks
MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the endpoint security products market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Webroot® with the 2012 North American Frost & Sullivan Product Differentiation Excellence Award for creating an innovative means of protecting against malware while appearing seamless to the end user.
Implementing strategies focused on product differentiation offers strong competitive advantages in the commoditized endpoint security market that faces increasingly complex and sophisticated threats. Discovering alternative means of detection and remediation, while maintaining device performance standards is crucial for success. Webroot has stepped up to address these needs with its Webroot SecureAnywhere™ product suite.
Webroot SecureAnywhere products deploy a new cloud-based architecture that reduces the impact on client memory as well as scan times to less than two minutes, all while eliminating the need for signature threat updates. Webroot SecureAnywhere includes a range of products for both consumers and business, providing features including cloud-based antimalware, firewall, network monitoring, antiphishing, browser sandboxing, malicious URL blocking, system cleaner, password encryption, lost mobile protection, and web management.
"Since the key trends driving the evolution of the threat landscape include mobility, virtualization, and cloud services, Webroot has created the SecureAnywhere portfolio of endpoint security products to meet the need for protection against unknown threats on a variety of devices operating in varied environments," said Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst, Martha Vazquez. "The solutions offer an innovative approach to protect against malware threats and zero-day attacks, relying on file pattern and behavior recognition through a cloud-based solution."
Webroot SecureAnywhere locates "bad files" and creates a file hash that is sent to the Webroot Intelligence Network to be compared against a library of known malware files. If the hash file is new, it is sent for behavior and analysis categorization. If it is bad, execution is blocked. If a determination is not possible immediately, the file is allowed to run on the endpoint, but all its actions are monitored and recorded.
Further, the integrated shields in the products prevent any bad behavior while an unknown file is being monitored. If the file is later determined to be bad, SecureAnywhere will automatically rollback any changes the file made to the system to the last known good state to effectively remediate the threat without the need to reimage the system.
"Unlike traditional endpoint management, Webroot SecureAnywhere device management takes place within the cloud rather than through on-premise devices and heavy client for updates, thus preventing service interruptions for end users," noted Martha Vazquez. "This also means that Webroot's SecureAnywhere product requires no hardware or software maintenance and has no need to provision software or appliances to manage security."
Webroot's user-centric protection means that policies can be set by the administrator and customized by groups or individual users at a single location with a single interface. One master account is used to manage all device functions; sub accounts may be added under the master account for individual families and businesses.
Webroot has traditionally focused on the consumer market and has tailored its cloud-based protection with customers' time and budget constraints in mind, offering a solution that boasts superior performance at a minimal price. Earlier this year, Webroot launched a product targeted at the business segment with more advanced management capabilities to suit the unique needs of a corporate environment.
Webroot's products have received top ratings from widely respected third parties and have been widely adopted by millions of users globally. The company has leveraged channel partnerships with more than 1,000 electronic and superstores to grow revenues by more than 30 percent over the past year. Double-digit growth is expected to continue for the next two years because of new technology deployment and a strong focus on the business segment.
Based on these achievements, Frost & Sullivan is pleased to present Webroot with the 2012 Product Differentiation Award in the endpoint security market. Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed a product with unique features/functionality as well as high quality for customers with complex needs. The award lauds the degree of the products customization and the fit for evolving market trends, which ultimately results in a strong brand perception of the product as being unique.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
