Frost & Sullivan Honors Calxeda for its Groundbreaking EnergyCore Architecture for Scalable Computing

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, July 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the smart performance for scalable computing market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Calxeda with the 2013 North America Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Innovation Leadership. Calxeda's EnergyCore Architecture is an energy- and performance-efficient processing technology designed to address data centers' issues of high energy usage and demands for high performance. Another distinctive feature of this technology is its fabric switch design with system on chip (SoC), which contains five fabric links that can deliver speeds of up to 10 Gbps per channel and support several fabric topologies such as torus, grids and meshes. By eliminating the external port, the integrated fabric switch drastically reduces energy consumption.
The technology helps data centers cut operational costs during upgrades. In conventional data centers, upgrades require the installation of new hardware to increase system performance. Calxeda's EnergyCore technology helps to do away with such costs, as the processor's SoC design enables upgrades through a software patch.
"EnergyCore also has a self-adjustment feature to route fabric traffic around nodes that are congested or from faulty links to available ones," observes Swapnadeep. "This capability greatly reduces downtime or service interruption."
Besides this, the technology offers simplified management capabilities. It does so by building the management platform using industry standards-based management tools, including Intelligent Management Platform Interface (IMPI) 2.0 and Data Center Manageability Interface (DMPI). It also supports a remote management system to ensure seamless operational integration during deployment.
Service providers that do not have large spaces to build their data centers will benefit the most from this technology. By adopting this power-efficient yet high-performance architecture, they can reduce their investments in multiple servers.
