Frost & Sullivan Hails Severn Trent Services' Technology Leadership of Water and Wastewater Disinfection Systems Market
- The company is a pioneer of stable, safe and sustainable electrochlorination products
LONDON, May 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the water and wastewater disinfection systems market, Frost & Sullivan recognises Severn Trent Services with the 2013 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Technology Leadership.
"Severn Trent Services has established itself as the undisputed technology leader in the field of electrochlorination disinfection through its joint venture – Severn Trent De Nora (STDN)," noted Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Vandhana Ravi. "Electrochlorination is perceived as having an edge over traditional disinfection technologies in terms of offering greater stability, reliability and safety – all while reducing the consumer's carbon footprint."
Severn Trent De Nora offers a series of innovative electrochlorination products for ballast water, wastewater and drinking water applications. These products include the world renowned ClorTec® on-site sodium hypochlorite generator and the recently USCG certified AMS BALPURE® ballast water treatment system. More recently, a new dimension was added to its robust portfolio: the CECHLO product line of Chlorine Engineers Corp., Ltd. (CEC) was acquired in mid-2012 to penetrate the growing markets in Asia.
"This acquisition has further reinforced STDN's global position in electrochlorination systems technology with the adoption of key technologies, such as ion exchange membrane electrolyzer (IEM), from CEC," elaborated Ms Ravi. "This has been accompanied by a stronger presence in the Asian market, in general, and the Japanese market, in particular, where CEC has a significant customer base."
STDN currently holds eight patents for electrochlorination technology. The company's expanded technology reach ranges from seawater hypochlorite generation that caters to ballast water applications and industrial wastewater applications. The company's brine hypochlorite generation products are primarily being used for potable water and municipal wastewater applications. A worldwide license agreement with CEC for accessing its IEM has allowed STDN to leverage its electrochlorination technology for the production of sodium hypochlorite (12% concentration).
"IEM technology is being supplied to municipal water and wastewater treatment plants, bleach manufacturers and chemical companies of certain sizes, thereby complementing STDN's global position as a leader in electrochemical disinfection," stated Ms Ravi.
"Apart from these niche applications, STDN also has an extensive product footprint in sewage treatment plants, offshore oil applications, marine applications, disinfection of cooling towers in power plants and disinfection of large amounts of feed water in desalination plants."
"STDN has established an excellent reputation and brand name across the globe," said Ms Ravi. "Exceptional reliability, integrity, knowledge and delivery are further burnishing the brand name of the company."
Customer satisfaction has been identified as one of the key differentiating factors for STDN's electrochlorination products. For the same reason, the company distributes its electrochlorination products either directly to end-users or through EPC contractors. This is aimed at maintaining product quality and enhancing delivery.
The Technology Leadership Award is presented to the company that has demonstrated excellence in the development and leveraging of new technologies and in its R&D spending as a percentage of revenues. The company is also commended for its superior brand perception and customer value.
