Frost & Sullivan Data Center Transformation Asia Pacific Summit 2012 sheds light on emerging trends in data center infrastructure

SINGAPORE, Aug. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Frost & Sullivan hosted the Data Center Transformation Asia Pacific Summit on August 23, 2012 at the Amara Sanctuary Sentosa Singapore. With the support of Gold Sponsor Brocade, Frost & Sullivan and various industry experts looked at how adequate agility and efficient management of data centers is of paramount importance to business decision makers.
Themed 'Keys to Successful Data Center Transformation', the one-day summit opened with a Keynote address by Manoj Menon, Partner and Asia Pacific Managing Director, Frost & Sullivan on how Mega Trends impact across industries, Business and Data Center.
The summit advanced with presentations from K.P Unnikrishnan, Director of Marketing Asia, Brocade; Ramachandran Narayanan, Deputy Director, InfoComm, National Library Board; Johan Segergren, Country Manager, Google Enterprise Singapore, Philippines, Thailand; and Harry Purwdinata, Senior System Architect, T-Systems Singapore Pte Ltd.
The Interactive Panel Discussion in the morning on 'Ethernet Fabric: Enabling the Transformation of the Data Center' was moderated by Manoj Menon. He was joined by Adi Kusma, President Director, Biznet, PT Supra Primatama Nusantara; Leon Jackson, Head of Healthcare IT UM Specialist Centre Sdn Bhd; Pierre-Olivier Blu-Mocaer, Head of IT Infrastructure APAC Schroders; Ho Khai Leng, Group Director (Clinical Systems), Integrated Health Information Systems, Singapore; and Aaron Rasmussen, Director - Data Centre, Facilities Management & Engineering, SingTel Ltd, Singapore.
The second half of the day further discussed how the IT industry is undergoing a paradigm shift in the way computing resources are being procured and delivered. In the 2nd think tank session, Mayank Kapoor, Industry Analyst of ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific touched on identifying, defining and evaluating mega trends and their implications for industries and organizations.
Kapoor commented, "Among the technology factors that will serve as enablers for the delivery of cloud services, virtualization has the greatest impact since it provides a foundation for delivering cloud solutions. Virtualization helps to build clouds by creating logical instances that can be provisioned on-demand. Beyond virtualization, there are three additional steps required to establish a fully self-sufficient private cloud infrastructure. It is important to understand each of these steps and their role in enabling cloud computing."
The summit wrapped up with an Interactive Panel Discussion on 'Data Center Sustainability – What have we done and what should we be doing?' and participants included Richard Jones, IT Operations Director Jones Lang LaSalle; Roger Lee, Head of IT, Southeast Asia, AECOM; George Wang Senior Director, Infrastructure Technology & Data Centre Operations, NOL; and Aaron Tan Dani, Chairman, Iasa Asia Pacific, IASA.
