Frost & Sullivan Awards Nokia for its Passive Optical LAN Solution leveraging leading-edge technologies
Passive Optical LAN is based on a single centralized active equipment and a simpler network
LONDON, Nov. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the local area network (LAN) market, Frost & Sullivan recognises Nokia with the 2016 European Local Area Network New Product Innovation Award. Nokia's Passive Optical LAN (POL) solution provides a more cost-effective way to deploy local area networks (LAN), while delivering significant benefits to organizations like unlimited bandwidth, security, reliability, longevity and energy and space savings.
Passive Optical LAN is based on Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology and involves a single centralized active equipment, a simpler network and thin-client end-point devices, which are centrally managed.
Nokia's POL solution can deliver more than 50 percent cost savings over traditional copper-based Ethernet LAN. Nokia's POL solution is based on the centralized access node 7360 ISAM FX, variety of end-user devices and advanced management system. The solution delivers Gigabit speeds to each user or connected device and enables smooth evolution to 20x more capacity, reusing the same cabling and same access node, making it a game changing solution for LAN. Another key benefit of Nokia's POL solution is its management system – the 5571 PCC (POL Command Center) -- a highly intuitive tool for easy configuration, auto-activation, fault reporting, proactive network monitoring and troubleshooting of a LAN.
"Nokia's POL solution provides military-grade security and data encryption," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Priya Sharma. "And as optical fibres are resistant to electromagnetic interference, POL is ideal for use in sensitive environments such as hospitals, where cameras and machines can interrupt data transmission."
Nokia continues to see strong demand for its POL solution worldwide. GPON is a field proven, mature technology, designed for simplicity and efficiency and Nokia's successful fibre projects and partnership programs have helped it cater to companies of all sizes.
"Nokia's primary focus is not on delivering the most inexpensive solution to customers but to present value-added solutions at competitive prices," noted Sharma. "Significantly, the Ethernet-based LAN lasts nearly 5 to 7 years, whereas the POL solution lasts at least 50 years, translating to greater lifetime cost savings."
For understanding customer needs in the LAN market and for developing a novel product to address those needs, Nokia richly deserves the 2016 European Local Area Network New Product Innovation Award. Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed an innovative element in a product by leveraging leading-edge technologies. The award recognises the value-added features/benefits of the product and the higher return on investment (ROI) it offers customers, which in turn improves customer acquisition and overall market penetration potential.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry.
