Frost & Sullivan Applauds SafeNet for its Sentinel License Management Product Line that Covers a Broad Range of Applications and Use Cases
- The depth and breadth of the Sentinel product line earns SafeNet continued potential to dominate the market
MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, July 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the software license management (LM) market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes SafeNet, Inc. with the 2011 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Line Strategy. SafeNet accounts for more than half of the software LM market today. This award recognizes the depth and breadth of the company's Sentinel suite in a market that favors one-stop vendors.
The Sentinel suite comprises four elements. The first is the Sentinel HASP, which provides LM for desktop and enterprise applications, enforced through software or using dongles. It includes a set of back-office integration and reporting tools, application analytics and reporting, and support for virtualization.
The second component, the Sentinel RMS, is a full-fledged LM platform that enables power users to implement customized business models. It supports a broad range of enterprise use cases in a scalable and reliable manner. For entitlement management, Sentinel RMS integrates out of the box with Sentinel EMS, a centralized, Web-based entitlement management platform.
Sentinel EMS helps manage and automate all licensing activity including entitlement generation, registration, activation, and license distribution. EMS provides the critical functionality of integrating the independent software vendor's (ISV's) back office systems with their one or many software LM system(s). SafeNet EMS integrates cleanly into the back-office, providing a consistent interface for all types of protected products (desktop, embedded or services) across various types of deployments (hardware or software locking, on-premise, or software as a service (SaaS)).
The fourth component is the cloud-based Sentinel Cloud, which is the only cloud-based license management solution available today for SaaS and on-premise software vendors looking to monetize all or a portion of their software portfolio as a service. Sentinel Cloud is designed to serve the fast-growing SaaS segment, which is gaining momentum as a competing or complementary offering to traditional on-premise software applications. It offers a deep set of features and aids a wide set of use cases, giving it a competitive edge and solving urgent business needs for software vendors. SafeNet also has a well established consulting and professional services arm to help larger publishers with planning and implementation of LM. As an example of synergy across Sentinel suite components, the hosted version of Sentinel EMS is a key component of Sentinel Cloud.
"SafeNet has established a leading position in the embedded segment through the use case and platform support capabilities of its product line," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Avni Rambhia. "SafeNet also serves customers in all tiers of the desktop software segment through its range of software-enforcement, hardware-enforcement, lower-end out of the box and higher-end customizable product offerings, and is making strategic strides forward in the SaaS segment through its innovative cloud offerings."
SafeNet supports a range of use cases from simple licensing needs to highly complex deployment scenarios. The product line's emphasis on application analytics is also valuable to publishers, as is its support for virtualized execution of software, enabling grace periods for software use, and pay-per-use models.
Hardware dongles are the traditional solutions for secure node locking, and form a significant portion of SafeNet's business. By complementing its traditional dongle-based solutions with software- and cloud- based enforcement options, SafeNet is in the unique position of allowing ISVs the flexibility to choose the solutions that best meet their requirements and goals.
SafeNet's market dominance is partially due to its long innings in the marketplace and its strategic acquisitions of leading competitors in the dongle space.
"By engineering its product line to meet changing business models, enforcement preferences, and deployment scenarios in desktop, embedded, and cloud-based software, SafeNet has secured its market position," said Rambhia. "Further, by building comparable breadth of use case support in the other segments of the LM market, SafeNet's product line has the potential to further grow the company's market share."
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that demonstrates the most insight into the needs and product demands of its customers. The recipient company optimizes its product line by leveraging products with the various price, performance and feature points required by one or more market segments.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry.
