-- Alcatel-Lucent boasts a broad portfolio that addresses customers of all sizes, with tailored deployments that demonstrate the superiority of its products
MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the small-cell solutions industry, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Alcatel-Lucent with the 2015 Frost & Sullivan Latin American Market Leadership Award for capturing the highest market share within its industry. Alcatel-Lucent, on the strength of its innovative small-cell solutions, has secured 12 contracts across seven countries in Latin America since 2013, covering three large fields. For 2015, it plans to increase that number to 17 contracts across 12 countries. It holds more than 50 percent of the market share in Latin America, and supplies three of the top four network providers in Brazil, entrenching itself as an industry leader in market penetration.

Alcatel-Lucent acknowledges the immense potential of small-cell solutions in enhancing the overall performance of networks. In line with this belief, it leveraged emerging technologies to develop small cells that provide faster data rates, higher throughput, and reliability to the radio access network (RAN).
Instead of focusing on cellular or IP networks individually, Alcatel-Lucent views metro networks as heterogeneous networks (HetNet), and is engineering ways to promote vendor neutrality to enable seamless traffic flow from all user equipment (UE). The recent announcement of its Wireless Unified Networks solution proves that Alcatel-Lucent is not content resting at the top of the leaderboard, but is constantly innovating to offer end users "wireless freedom with wired quality."
"Alcatel-Lucent's Wireless Unified Networks solves operators' issues of increasingly congested, underperforming, and overworked wireless IP backhauls," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Benjamin Gresham. "This pioneer network system combines Wi-Fi and cellular enhancement technologies to deliver high-quality high-capacity solutions for subscribers."
The Wireless Unified Networks comprises two new Alcatel-Lucent technologies—Wi-Fi Boost and Cellular Boost. Current long-term evolution (LTE) and Wi-Fi technologies have bottlenecks that severely limit the full network performance potential of platforms that rely solely on wireless access points (AP), but Alcatel-Lucent's product has resolved this by using multiple bands to achieve maximum reliable throughput.
Even as stand-alone solutions, both Alcatel-Lucent technologies are remarkably fast, but when used together, with an aggregation of both the 4G LTE and LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U), they enable peak data rates of 1.25 Gbps.
Alcatel-Lucent's specialty small-cells products' vendor neutrality is a significant differentiator, as vendor lock-in is a prevailing condition in the industry. This allows customers to continue using existing proprietary vendor products and avoid early termination costs. Additionally, Alcatel-Lucent establishes realistic key performance indicators early in the deployment, giving customers a more accurate picture to help them control budget costs.
Furthermore, Alcatel-Lucent has earned a strong reputation worldwide and understands the value of leveraging its brand name to achieve business goals. By partnering with JCDecaux, a French multinational advertising corporation, the company crafted a solution that offers network coverage that aesthetically complements the urban environment instead of disrupting it. Alcatel-Lucent also partners with industry leaders such as Accenture to provide go-to-market solutions and to lower the number of redundant touch points or performance bottlenecks in the infrastructure.
"Alcatel-Lucent has combined its market leadership in IP backhaul with its innovative small-cell solutions to serve the broadest base of customers in Latin America. Its unabated focus on innovation gives Alcatel-Lucent a great opportunity to maintain its leadership position in the years to come," said Frost & Sullivan Global President and Managing Partner Krishna Srinivasan.
