Satellites have traditionally formed the backbone of military communication, reconnaissance and navigation capabilities. This is a fundamental capability area in what is becoming a far more contested and congested space to operate in. As a result, cooperation between military and civilian space agencies has become the answer to increasing reach and bandwidth.
Defence IQ's Military Satellites 2012 conference (http://www.militarysatellitesevent.com) in London will bring together the world's largest space powers and civilian space agencies to discuss practical utility of satellites in contemporary operations and the challenges associated with improving satellite communication technology and the surveillance function.

- Colonel Tim Coffin, Deputy Commander - Operations, US Army Space and Missile Defence Command
- Colonel Andres Dupuis, Director Space Requirements, Canadian DND
- Emma Lord, Director of Policy & Operations, UK Space Agency
- Tomaž Lovrenčič, Director, European Union Satellite Centre
Military Satellites 2012 will explore current issues affecting the Military Satellites community such as space situational awareness, operationally responsive space and cyber security.
