The launch follows the decision of the Commercial Court in Dusseldorf in a case with Austria-based "FTV Programmgesellschaft mbH" which was published on Sept 2, ruling that the brands "Fashion Television" and "Fashion TV" are generic and not confusingly similar.
"We are happy that the court ruling has established clarity and we can continue the broadcast of a brand that was established over 25 years ago as the authority of fashion programming," says Brian Bellerose of Fashion Television International.
Broadcast in Europe launched on Eurobird 13 "Hotbird" in DVB-S2, transponder 117, downlink frequency 10853, Polarization Horizontal, symbol rate 29900.
Fashion Television International became the owner of the "Fashion Television" brand in 2014 when Canada-based Bell Media Inc. decided to divest themselves from its international activities and instead focus on the Canadian market. It is now owned by Desdemona Capital, a private equity group based in Spain.
"Fashion Television" is one of the oldest fashion media brand names in the world having been launched as a TV show in Canada 1985, and transitioned into a special interest television channel, it features topics relevant to fashion such as haute couture, street fashion, related events and trends, with fashion events in more than 80 countries covering leading style icons such as Donna Karan, Karl Lagerfeld, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Marc Jacobs, and the late Alexander McQueen.
