Family Comes First for Lottery Winners
AMSTERDAM, February 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Recession Causes Change in Attitude among Players
Lottery players still want to hit the jackpot, but the way they plan to spend their winnings is changing, with more than 47 percent saying their first priority would be to help out friends and family, according to a survey undertaken by European Lottery Guild (ELG).
When the world's leading international lottery broker asked its customers about the first thing they would spend their winnings on, almost 50 percent said they would give money to their family. This was more than twice as many as the two second most popular choices, a dream holiday and a luxury home, which both got 19.6 percent.
"The most interesting thing about this survey was the question itself, which actually asked about the 'first thing' the players would spend their money on, not the biggest," said Elisabeth Moore, customer relations manager at ELG. "To be honest, we expected that the most popular answer would be Champagne, with the bigger purchases to come later, which only serves to emphasise how strongly people feel about helping their families.
"I think this is an extension of the need people feel to support and care for their nearest and dearest, which becomes even stronger when we're living in less prosperous times. They dream of winning the lottery and making sure that nobody in their family will ever have to worry about money again."
European Lottery Guild provides numerous opportunities for people to hit the jackpot each week. With British, Spanish, German, Irish, French and EuroMillions Lotto tickets available for purchase, there are millions in cash just waiting to be won. To date, more than 886,000 people around the globe have won prizes through ELG and the amount paid out totals more than €96.4 Million.
