EOS, the global technology and quality leader for high-end solutions in Additive Manufacturing (AM) will be attending the first 3D Print UAE with its market-leading solutions for industrial 3D printing. The trade fair will be held from 17-18 August in Dubai. At the company's stand, EOS will present its plastics and metal technology, which not only accelerates product development but also heralds a paradigm shift in design and manufacturing, and opens up possibilities for innovative approaches in series production. At the stand, the company offers insights into a large number of industry-specific application examples.
Markus Glasser, Regional Director of Exports at EOS, notes: "Dubai and its neighbouring countries offer a very promising market for EOS. Initial systems have already been installed and commissioned in this region. We believe that it currently offers the greatest growth potential for additive manufacturing, particularly in the aerospace sector, the dental industry and academic environments. We actively support our customers with the professional introduction of the technology, and also with identifying the optimum applications."
And he adds: "As a Platinum Plus Sponsor, we welcome the opportunity to be a part of the first 3D Print UAE, to introduce our company and our technology, and the chance to meet all of the relevant players in our industries in Dubai. We kindly invite trade fair visitors to my presentation on 17 August at 10:30am on the topic of '3D printing: From hype to industrial production applications'."
Quick, flexible and cost-effective - directly from CAD data
Additive manufacturing is a layer building method that allows for design-driven production processes on the basis of digital CAD data; it is very distinct from conventional production methods in terms of the processes involved. A focused laser beam solidifies the powder-shaped material based on the supplied digital data. Once a layer has been completed, the powder bed lowers by a few hundredths of millimetres, and the process starts anew. The end product is characterised by a consistently high level of quality. A variety of metals, plastics and composite materials may be used for this purpose.
These methods enable companies to surpass the limits set by conventional production-driven processes. The EOS technology can be used for the manufacturing of prototypes to series applications.
Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS): The draught horse for series use
During the last few years, this EOS metal technology - Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) - has played a major role in enabling Additive Manufacturing to make its way into series production in addition to rapid prototyping. In this area, the EOS M 290, a highly-productive and modular system for the additive series production of high-quality metal components, is the ideal entry-level choice and allows for the flexible, rapid and cost-effective manufacturing of metal components directly from CAD data. The newest system generation EOS M 400 offers the right environment for the manufacture of large, high-quality metal components in a production environment.
Plastics technology: High-performance, competitively-priced entry point to AM
The FORMIGA P 110 is particularly well suited to enter the field of plastics-based Additive Manufacturing. This flexible, competitively-priced and highly-productive system manufactures plastics components with the highest surface quality from digital CAD data, without the use of tools. The usable build volume is 200 x 250 x 330 mm. Therefore the system is particularly well suited for efficient small series production, customised products with complex geometries and prototype applications.
Aerospace: Reduction of CO₂ emissions
The advantages offered by the innovative EOS technology become particularly evident in this segment: Functional, complex components as well as aerodynamically defined properties can be created without any problems. On top of that, production is cost-efficient and rapid. The aerospace industry is a key growth market for Additive Manufacturing. The leading companies in this segment have already integrated this technology in their planning for future production strategies. Material and weight savings lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.
Meeting the most demanding requirements in the dental industry: precision, aesthetics, part costs
Dental end products can now be manufactured on the basis of industrial 3D printing with the help of EOS' fully integrated dental solutions. The digital technology has made its way into many aspects of dental medicine, and has already become an integral part of the industry in some areas. Dental crowns and bridges made with Additive Manufacturing have almost entirely replaced current lost-wax casting applications in some countries. The end product features a consistently high level of quality and meets the requirements for precision and aesthetics. Laboratories and production service providers are also able to work more efficiently with these products - whether it concerns the production of crowns and bridges, plastic models or removable partial dentures. In addition, the productivity of the EOS systems also has a positive effect on the cost of parts.
Founded in 1989, EOS is the global technology and quality leader for high-end Additive Manufacturing (AM) solutions. As the leading pioneer of Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS™) technology, EOS also provides a unique polymer AM portfolio. For these industrial 3D Printing processes, EOS offers a modular solution portfolio including systems, software, materials, technical and consulting services.
