Enforcement of Electromagnetic Compatibility Standards and Directives to Drive Related Test Market

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The market for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing is expected to get a thrust over the next four years. Increasing government initiatives to make EMC testing mandatory will begin with national labs developing testing capabilities. Manufacturing and R&D activities in the region are further set to drive the growth of the EMC test market. Most countries in Southeast (SE) Asia have already adopted the international standard regulated by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test Equipment Market in Southeast Asia (http://www.frost.com/p831), finds that the market earned revenues of US$68 million in 2014 and is expected to nearly double to reach US$134.5 million in 2019, at a compound annual growth rate of 14.6 percent.

"The positioning of SE Asia as a manufacturing hub and the rising volume of design and development activities in the electrical and electronics sector augur well for EMC test equipment vendors."
However, EMC test equipment vendors are hampered to some extent by the price sensitivity of end users. Due to tightening budgets and the need to keep manufacturing lean, there is rising demand for equipment with wider functionalities and lower prices.
EMC test market participants are making efforts to stem price declines and maintain their profit margins by offering strong product performance, product reliability, and value-added services. Vendors that aggressively introduce equipment, upgrades, and additions to their existing product portfolio have better chances of succeeding in the market.
As efficiency, versatility, and robustness in testing are priorities, end users will continue to demand equipment such as EMI test receivers, which are capable of taking multiple measurements in a short time. There is also likely to be a substantial market for spectrum analyzers that are fast, efficient, and versatile.
"In the future, EMC test equipment manufacturers that offer integration services will have an edge over other competitors," noted Sahayan. "It is imperative that vendors work towards building trust with customers to enhance their presence in the market.
