Elekta Takes Elekta Compact to Next Level with Optional Multi-Leaf Collimator
- Elekta's most affordable linac now also available with iViewC MV imaging solution
CRAWLEY, England, April 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Elekta Compact(TM) has graduated to the next level by enabling easy integration of the MLCi2 full field 80 leaf multi-leaf collimator, which will permit clinicians to quickly and accurately shape the radiation beam more closely to the target volume as well as deliver IMRT treatments. By introducing the optional MLCi2 for Elekta Compact, Elekta has followed through on its commitment to provide an ongoing stream of modular upgrades for the system, launched in 2007. Elekta also will offer Elekta Compact customers the option to install the iViewC(TM) electronic portal imaging device, which facilitates rapid, precise patient set-up, imaging and positioning.
"Advanced beam shaping and patient set-up and repositioning options transform Elekta Compact from a great starter treatment system to one that shares many of the capabilities of our top-of-the-line linear accelerators," says Peter J. Gaccione, Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Software Initiatives. "MLCi2 and iViewC now combine with XiO(R) treatment planning and MOSAIQ(R) oncology information system (OIS) to make Elekta Compact an exceptional choice in emerging, developing and even mature markets." With this Elekta Compact solution, clinics can now plan, verify and deliver a variety of treatments including IMRT.
MLCi2 boosts dose conformance
MLCi2 provides more accurate delivery to the target while limiting radiation exposure to surrounding structures. With its easy integration, MLCi2 maintains Elekta Compact system's unrivalled patient clearance, which offers greater flexibility in setup and delivery of different techniques.
The active leakage reduction mechanism in MLCi2 uses the diaphragms to automatically track the trailing leaf, thereby minimizing interleaf transmission. This feature plays a valuable role in reducing integral dose to the patient.
The integrated MLCi2 provides highly efficient workflows. With a continuous 40 x 40 cm field size, there is no need to split field when large field sizes are required. The efficiency of the MLCi2 is enhanced through its fast leaf speed and accuracy in leaf positioning for all treatment delivery techniques.
iViewC provides accurate patient position verification
The new electronic portal imaging system - iViewC - offers an effective patient verification solution. Using advanced CCD (charge-coupled device) technology, iViewC affords high quality, real-time images that verify that the patient is in the correct position at the time of treatment. This helps to ensure patient safety and reduced margins during therapy delivery.
The digital architecture of iViewC ensures rapid patient set up and positioning, faster patient throughput and valuable workflow efficiencies compared to X-ray film, such as digital image storage and no waiting time between image acquisition and analysis. iViewC provides workflow oriented tools that can be used in online or offline modes to generate table displacement values.
Planning and information management
Elekta Compact is available as a complete solution for clinics with a wide range of software options to support treatment planning and OIS. Both XiO treatment planning system and MOSAIQ OIS are configurable from entry-level to full capabilities as clinical needs change.
- XiO: Treatment planning solution featuring patient contouring, plan review, automated image fusion, virtual simulation, conformal treatment planning and DICOM RT connectivity. - MOSAIQ: Elekta's dedicated OIS, which streamlines the entire therapy workflow, from initial diagnosis and staging, through planning, treatment and subsequent follow-up. MOSAIQ features patient administration, evaluation and diagnosis, workflow management, independent treatment verification, and reporting and analysis.
Elekta Compact also offers a comprehensive range of accessories and support to allow radiation treatment centers to expand their clinical practice. Learn more at http://www.elekta.com/compact.
