Egyptian Companies Showcase Egypt's Strength in ICT at GSMA Mobile World Congress
CAIRO, February 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Egypt, which has a world class outsourcing infrastructure, will demonstrate its leadership in ICT with 17 innovative companies due to exhibit at the world's largest mobile industry exhibition, GSMA Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona from 25- 28 February 2013.
The country's Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) will support the participation of 17 leading Egyptian mobile technology companies, representing Egypt's innovative solutions in the sector. The Egypt On stand (hall 7, stand 7164) will showcase why Egypt continues to attract investment from companies such as Cisco and Microsoft through its leadership in providing mobile technology solutions.
Among the companies representing Egypt's mobile technology industry are Emerge Technology, which develops Blu-ray and HD-DVD embedded software for international clients, including major Hollywood studios with mobile application development, and Victory Link, a provider of mobile, internet and digital solutions to leading brands. Also included on the stand are Giza Systems, the number one systems integrator in Egypt and the Middle East, providing services to fixed line operators, mobile operators, call centers, brokers and security agencies.
The recent winner of the first ever Cairo Transport App Challenge (hosted by MCIT in collaboration with the World Bank), Belya, developed by NetCare Egypt, has also been nominated for The Mobile Premier Awards, which takes place on February 25th in Barcelona during the Mobile World Congress. The Mobile Premier Awards are the biggest app awards in the mobile industry, showcasing some of the world's most innovative apps.
The Belya application is a portable car mechanic which helps drivers with road assistance and car maintenance. It is the first portable application for assistance on the road and car maintenance in Egypt and works by using the global positioning system (GPS) to help drivers locate automobile service centers and send requests for assistance with their vehicles. The application is also linked to the General Traffic Administration which enables it to provide quick and regular updates on the traffic situation.
Commenting on Egypt's strong presence at the event Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Atef Helmy, said: "This will be our third year exhibiting at the GSMA Mobile World Congress and our strength and proposition in this area gets more impressive every year. Our exhibitors this year clearly show that Egypt has world leading technology and innovation as well as a highly trained and cost effective talent pool. With this combination we are confident that we offer an attractive proposition for investors and companies in the industry."
The IT industry remains a prominent pillar of Egypt's economy and a key part of the country's continuing growth, with ITIDA and MCIT (Ministry for Communications and Information Technology) supporting this growth through the country's ongoing transformation to a stable, democratic and modern economy.
ITIDA's CEO Eng. Yasser El Kady said: "We have invested significantly to ensure that Egypt's outsourcing and IT infrastructure is world class. This means that investors have remained committed to Egypt as an outsourcing destination. We still continue to attract investment from major multinationals and to grow and develop."
Egypt's high quality IT infrastructure, including telecoms and Internet, still make it a leading outsourcing destination. Current investors in Egypt include major multinationals Microsoft, Vodafone, Ericsson, Oracle, IBM and Alcatel-Lucent.
