Edinburgh Ranks Most Expensive Destination in the UK This Summer

LONDON, July 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Edinburgh is the most expensive summer destination in the United Kingdom for travelers. Hotel cost served as the determining factor in coming up with the city's number one ranking in a new survey from CheapRooms.co.uk. The survey compared the hotel rates for 30 popular destinations in the UK with this summer's school vacation timeframe serving as the basis of comparison.

In the capital city of Scotland, visitors will have to pay an average of GBP 97 per night, and that's for the most affordable double room. Certainly Edinburgh's annual Festival Fringe, the world's largest arts festival, contributes to the city's high hotel rates. That event will takes place this year from August 2nd through the 26th. Outside the festival, in late July or the end of August, rooms in Edinburgh can be found for 30% less. 

Second most expensive, according to the survey, is Bath, at an average rate of GBP 93 nightly. Thus, this city in the southwest of England is even slightly more expensive than London. Here in the capital city the most affordable double room is averaging GBP 92 this summer. 

The following table shows the 10 most expensive summer destinations in the UK. The prices shown reflect the average daily rate for each locale's cheapest available double room (minimum: 3 star hotel) for the time period spanning July 24th through September 1st.
