REYKJAVIK, Iceland, December 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Icelandic flight meta-search Dohop has been selected as "The World's Leading Flight Comparison Website" at the World Travel Awards. The award announcement claims that it is awarded for "the commitment to excellence which the organisation has demonstrated in the last twelve months". The World Travel Awards' 2014 award ceremony was held on the evening of December 7th on the Caribbean island of Anguilla.
The World Travel awards are voted on by people in the travel industry, as well as seasoned travelers. With this win Dohop beat out last year's winner, the American flight search site Kayak, which was acquired by Priceline for $1.8 billion in 2012.
Dohop helps users find flights and is unique in that it often returns itineraries that are unavailable on other sites, a feature Dohop calls Self-Connect. Dohop was founded in 2004 so this award comes on the company's 10th birthday.
World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.
"We are thrilled to have been voted World's Leading Flight Comparison Website at the 2014 World Travel Awards. The award is a great recognition of the constant hard work we put into improving the technology that powers Dohop. Of course, winning on the company's 10th birthday makes it even more special." - Kristjan Bjarnason, CEO.
The World Travel Awards are voted on by travel industry professionals and high-end tourism consumers. Last year over 500,000 votes were cast.
Dohop is a flight comparison website that also allows users to find hotels and rental cars. It was founded in 2004 and the first version of the site went live in 2005. It searches prices from hundreds of airlines and OTAs, combining them to present users with the lowest possible price with their unique Self-Connect feature .
