"Emerging applications such as batch management and renewable power generation will provide excellent growth opportunities for DCS suppliers."
This demand will be tempered by growing cyber security concerns. Recent cyber-attacks and the discovery of malwares like Dragonfly and Havex have raised fears of unscheduled downtimes, threats to the safety of plants and people, and information security risks. As a result, end users are cautious with investments in DCS, and short-term priorities are moving from capacity expansion projects to security projects.
As security standards are put in place, government intervention will increase to enforce compliance. As a result, added security features in DCS will become top priority among suppliers. Vendors with robust security features and services will have a greater chance to win projects, especially from critical infrastructure industries.
