Dimension Data Advanced Infrastructure Selected as ICT Systems Integrator for NHS Wirral - St Catherine's Hospital
LONDON, May 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
- Specialist buildings controls systems integrator brought in to provide NHS Wirral - St Catherine's Hospital £multi-million redevelopment with fully certified IT Structured Cabling System and LAN infrastructure to support networked CCTV security solution -
Dimension Data Advanced Infrastructure (DDAI), a building controls systems integrator, has been selected by M&E contractor Balfour Beatty Engineering Services to implement a fully certified IT Structured Cabling System (SCS) throughout NHS Wirral -St Catherine's Hospital, Birkenhead, in a contract valued in the region of £80,000.
The SCS will provide the foundations of a fully networked CCTV security solution, comprising 130 IP-CCTV cameras connected via a Cisco LAN. The SCS is a critical part of the redevelopment of the existing Victorian buildings at the current premises on Derby Road, Birkenhead, which are to be replaced with a single, modern building in the centre of a landscaped site, with a pharmacy and community resource centre also on-site. The £32m project is due for completion in early 2013.
DDAI was selected based on its track record in delivering cutting-edge ICT integrated solutions for several other high profile health sector projects, most notably Peterborough & Stamford NHS Trust Hospital, whose solution comprised an installation of approximately 14,000 outlets of CAT 6 ICT cabling, containment, Cisco LAN, wireless and IP telephony. DDAI's successful deployment of previous Balfour Beatty North West healthcare projects at Salford Hope Hospital, Royal Blackburn Hospital and Tameside General Hospital helped further secure DDAI's appointment at NHS Wirral - St Catherine's Hospital.
DDAI has been engaged to provide a fully certified SCS throughout the brand new facility, entailing horizontal copper cabling, voice backbone cabling, Brand-Rex outlets and diversely routed fibre optic cable links to ensure resilient network connectivity around the hospital. DDAI selected Brand-Rex as its preferred cabling supplier for the project, as the project management team felt that the Brand-Rex offering was best suited NHS Wirral - St Catherine's Hospital requirements.
Cisco's ESW500 Series Switches - managed Ethernet switches that provide wire-speed Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity - were also specifically chosen for the CCTV LAN due to their clear advantages over other comparable smart switches in reliability, configuration and high performance.
Kari Baden, Managing Director of DDAI, comments "We can very clearly demonstrate to our clients a key understanding and appreciation of the complexity of both the construction and IT industries, not to mention extensive healthcare experience including our £3m+ ICT network installation project at the Peterborough & Stamford NHS Trust Hospital. We have therefore built our business accordingly, by showing how we are able to integrate highly innovative, world-class infrastructures. We have worked on many projects in collaboration with Balfour Beatty Engineering Services to date and were delighted to be awarded the contract to again support them on this exciting redevelopment for NHS Wirral - St Catherine's Hospital."
