SAN FRANCISCO, October 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --
The global Dental Implant Market is expected to grow at a significant CAGR in the forecast period. Since the last decade, implantology has resulted into an inseparable component of dentistry that helps dentists to enhance the quality of patient life and populations. Implant treatment is a common alternative to typical treatment options and in several cases it has become a first choice for restoration of anatomical, functional, and aesthetic problems occurring in the tooth. In the early days of implants, it was constrained only to a few dental teams that were working at universities, specialist centers, and patients with exception cases. Therefore, with the rise in R&D in dental implantology capping technological advances and fundamental shift in implant design, materials and modules, implant dentistry is now evolving to become an indispensable part of medical practice leading into patient assessment, treatment planning and implant placement. The dental implant market is highly driven by rise in use of technology for dental procedures, rise in number of patients demanding dental treatment. Oral cancers have been supplementing the demand for dental implants. In addition, geriatric population with denture needs is increasing at a steady rate.
However, narrow academic scope with a limited access to real-time market might hinder the market growth during the forecast period. Geographically, dental implant market is segmented into North America, South America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa. Asia-Pacific regions account for a greater market share in the global market due to shift in market trends for dental diagnosis. Increase in geriatric population is another growth aspect responsible for the APAC's market development. North American and European markets witness an upsurge in the market growth as the market size is considerably large coupled with latest innovations occurring in the market. The key players in the dental implant market include BioHorizons, BIOMET 3i, Zimmer Dental, Nobel Biocare, Straumann and Osstem. A dental implant (also known as an endosseous implant or fixture) is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration where materials, such as titanium, form an intimate bond to bone. The implant fixture is first placed, so that it is likely to osseointegrate, then a dental prosthetic is added. A variable amount of healing time is required for osseointegration before either the dental prosthetic (a tooth, bridge or denture) is attached to the implant or an abutment is placed which will hold a dental prosthetic. Success or failure of implants depends on the health of the person receiving it, drugs which impact the chances of osseointegration and the health of the tissues in the mouth. The amount of stress that will be put on the implant and fixture during normal function is also evaluated. Planning the position and number of implants is key to the long-term health of the prosthetic since biomechanical forces created during chewing can be significant. The position of implants is determined by the position and angle of adjacent teeth, lab simulations or by using computed tomography with CAD/CAM simulations and surgical guides called stents. The prerequisites to long-term success of osseointegrated dental implants are healthy bone and gingiva. Since both can atrophy after tooth extraction pre-prosthetic procedures, such as sinus lifts or gingival grafts, are sometimes required to recreate ideal bone and gingiva.
