Demand for Data Center Power Supplies in Brazil Grows with Expansion of IT Infrastructure Outsourcing, Finds Frost & Sullivan
- End users are opting for integrated solutions given the complexity of power systems
SAO PAULO, Oct. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Positive trends associated with the IT markets, particularly IT infrastructure outsourcing, will expand the data center industry in Brazil and spur the demand for back-up diesel generation sets, cooling systems, rack servers, and power supply devices. In the short-term, growth of the country's data center power supplies market will be driven by demand from the vertical data center segment in order to keep pace with technical innovation and energy efficiency requirements. The need for highly efficient cooling systems and server racks densification will stimulate the long-term development of the market.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.energy.frost.com), Analysis of the Brazilian Data Center Power Supplies Market, finds that the market earned revenues of $240 million in 2012 and estimates this to almost double to $460 million in 2017.
"The increasing popularity of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) systems owing to the high electricity tariffs in Brazil and the emphasis on energy efficiency will fuel market revenues," said Frost & Sullivan Energy and Power Supplies Research Analyst Gustavo Stainoh. "In fact, DCIM opportunities in the country are promising as facilities under construction are already adopting this solution."
Apart from power management solutions like DCIM systems, data centers are looking for environmentally-friendly solutions that help companies reduce the operational expenditure associated with energy consumption. Given the complexity of power systems, large data center users and project developers will prefer integrated solutions that consider infrastructure as a whole rather than as individual components. Such integrated systems allow for the effective monitoring and reduction of energy consumption.
Competitors themselves are looking to offer complete solution portfolios, including engineering and consultancy. "Project developers as well as engineering, procurement and construction companies are focusing on providing reliable electricity systems, and hence, original equipment manufacturers of power supplies must ensure continuous product improvements to stay competitive in the fast-evolving Brazilian market," added Stainoh.
While there is an intensifying demand for a wide variety of energy solutions in data centers, Brazilian component suppliers have not benefitted from it as imported products dominate the market. This scenario is not expected to change as long as import taxes remain low.
