– PMP 450 slated to bring up to 1 Gbps throughput to Ukraine, improving upon existing network –
ASHBURTON, England, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambium Networks™, a global leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, today announced that DCTEL, a telecommunications provider in Ukraine, has successfully completed trials of the Point-to-Multipoint (PMP) 450 Access Point. PMP 450 will be installed throughout DCTEL's network beginning in 2014 to offer a higher quality of service to existing customers, and to expand to new markets.
A major reason for DCTEL's choice of PMP 450 is its operability in multiple sub-6 GHz frequency bands, including 2.4 GHz. Unlike some other countries, Ukraine licenses usage of sub-6 GHz frequencies. Given that DCTEL has licenses for the 2.4GHz, 5.4GHz and 5.8GHz radio frequencies, the PMP 450 was a natural fit for the provider's increasing network needs, serving the country's explosive Internet growth. From 2000-2012, the number of Ukrainians with Internet connectivity ballooned to 15,300,000 people from 200,000, a 7,550% increase. In terms of download speed, the country was eighth in the world as of June 2011 at 1,190 Kbps, according to a study released by Pando Networks.
"As a longtime user of Cambium Networks equipment, we were excited to begin testing the new PMP 450 and defined that it would work well within our existing infrastructure installed in 2006," said Pavel Lyuty, director at DCTEL. "The results exceeded our expectations. We look forward to better serving our current residential and enterprise subscribers when our upgrade to PMP 450 is complete. With this new network in place that can provide throughput exceeding 540 Mbps per ring of access points, we can easily handle more end users, providing them with excellent service, and scale our business."
Like all Cambium Networks products, the PMP 450 demonstrates high performance in harsh interference environments. It thrives in these scenarios because of its unique synchronization system, which allows service providers to achieve up to 720 Mbps throughput using the 40 MHz and 60 MHz channel bandwidths. When installed in multiple rings, a PMP 450 base station can achieve a maximum total throughput capacity of 1080 Mbps. The effects of external interference can also be reduced by using 2.4 GHz dual slant (OFDM) antennas to ensure uniform signal propagation conditions.
"In designing and engineering new products, we always take customer feedback into account. What we hear from many of our customers is they need an easy, affordable way to accommodate more subscribers while maintaining performance," said Atul Bhatnagar, president and CEO, Cambium Networks. "We are delighted that DCTEL sees the versatility, durability and reliability of PMP 450, benefits that will manifest on the end users' side with faster Internet speeds and high-quality voice, VoIP and data applications."
