Dadd-I-Y - Wickes Reveals we are Most Likely to Approach Family Members for DIY Help

• Over 1/3 (35%) of Brits are planning on doing DIY this Easter weekend
• Most people (41%), turn to a family member for help
• 1 in 5 of those questioned admitted to having 'botched' home improvement jobs

Over a third (35%)* of Britons are planning to do DIY jobs this Easter weekend, and according to research by home improvement retailer Wickes, most of us will be turning to family members for guidance. Over two-thirds (41%) of those questioned have sought advice from their nearest and dearest before starting a DIY project. However, with 1 in 5 of those questioned admitting to having 'botched' a home improvement job in the past, Wickes is urging people to seek expert advice before starting any DIY this Easter weekend.

When it comes to DIY, both women and men prefer to trust the wisdom of their fathers or grandfathers rather than ask for professional advice. Of those questioned, 45% of women and 36% of men turn to a family member for DIY help, with only 13% of both sexes asking for advice from either their local DIY store or through speaking to a skilled tradesman.  The second most popular source of DIY inspiration came from friends with 22% of male and 15% of female respondents looking to their mates for tips.

The Wickes research suggests some people are very fortunate to have dads or granddads that can help practically in their homes. However, with 1 in 5 (22%) of those questioned admitting to 'botching' a DIY job, it is clear that for some of us, family members' willingness to help could be supplemented with some expert help and advice.
