On December 17th starting at 5:00 pm at Buccheri la Ferla Fatebenefratelli Hospital of Palermo a new Echo-Endoscopic Centre will be inaugurated inside the endoscopic clinic, equipped with sophisticated new diagnostic equipment.

In order to perform more and more cutting-edge diagnostic examinations and to increase the number of services for the patients, Terzo Pilastro of the Italia e Mediterraneo Foudation has donated four innovative digestive endoscopic instruments to the hospital at 197 Via Messina Marine. This equipment will offer better performance through high-definition images and a better contrast with artificial colouring systems (virtual chromoendoscopy). The instruments donated include: a gastroduodenoscope, a colonscope, a side vision duodenoscope and an echoendoscope - this last is owned only by few Sicily's centers.
The President of the Roman Province of Fatebenefratelli, Fra Gerardo D'Auria O.H. declared: "This new endoscopic instrumentation donation will make it possible to obtain the higher technological levels currently available in this area. Echo-endoscopy is an examination that allows doctors to make the right diagnosis in specific situations: it allows one to view alterations of the stomach wall and behind lesions that can't be explored by the lume (internal part of digestive system) with a normal endoscope. Is an internal examination whereby the endoscope - fitted with an ultrasound wand - is introduced through the alimentary canal, enabling not only the exploration of the stomach wall but also of the bordering organs: pancreas, liver, cyst, abscesses, lymph nodes and abdominal organs.
