Clickeze™ Privacy Systems Releases Designer Antimicrobial Fabrics That Protect Against Deadly Bacteria
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- As the Middle East healthcare market expands, so does the region's need for antimicrobial products that are safe for the environment. This led Clickeze™ Privacy Systems, a division of InPro Corporation, to create its new designer line, Areej al Seha™ Antimicrobial Fabrics, which reduces the risk of contamination from dangerous infections without impacting the environment.
Inadequate hand hygiene and ineffective cleaning are major contributors to the spread of infection in healthcare settings. The U.S. Center for Disease Control reports that these infections cause nearly 100,000 deaths per year in the United States alone, and the World Health Organization has estimated hundreds of millions of people worldwide contract healthcare acquired infections every year.
"Healthcare acquired infections are a global problem that cost lives," said Monica Anderson, Product Manager for the Areej al Seha line. "Our Areej al Seha fabrics eliminate the risk of spreading disease in healthcare environments where people are most vulnerable, by protecting one of the most commonly contaminated touchpoints – hospital curtains."
Areej al Seha uses ShieldPlus™ technology – which kills microbes that come into contact with the fabric using positively charged silane-based molecules so there is no cell mutation. An ASTM E 2149-01 test of fabrics treated with ShieldPlus showed that the material eliminates bacteria on contact including 99.8% or more of MRSA and VRE, the microbes classed as the worst sources of hospital acquired infections, and 95.7% of clostridium difficile (c. diff.). Unlike silver ion technology used in other antibacterial fabrics, ShieldPlus does not leach into the surrounding environment and remains permanently fixed to the fabric through repeated thermal washings*.
"Water is a precious resource, so we wanted to be sure that the technology we use does not have an adverse impact on the environment," said Monica. "Since the fabric is permanently antimicrobial, it does not need to be laundered as often as other fabrics, which also conserves the use of water."
The Areej al Seha line of fabrics conform to flame-retardant standards and was specifically designed for the Middle East market with feedback from the architectural and design community. The line includes fabrics with and without antibacterial treatment, available in 6 designs in different colourways and a range of 9 solid colours for use as cubicle curtains, shower curtains, window treatments, upholstery and bed coverings.
