BOSTON, March 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today CIVIQ Smartscapes, the leading developer of innovative smart city connected solutions, announced that the company will be the exclusive hardware provider of the communications devices for the LinkUK initiative—replacing public payphones with "Links" that will offer free Wi-Fi, interactive communication capabilities and state-of-the-art, real-time information networks across the United Kingdom.
Designed to complement the urban environment, the Links are engineered to benefit residents and visitors to the city, giving users access to maps, directions and local city services as well as free ultrafast Wi-Fi. LinkUK users can also make phone calls and quickly charge their mobile devices.
Starting with the UK's largest metropolitan area, the first units will be installed this spring with hundreds more planned for major high streets across London. Through a unique partnership, CIVIQ will deliver enhanced city services, all at no cost to users or taxpayers; the program will be fully funded by revenues from advertising on the Links' digital displays.
