LONDON, March 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Research from Savoo shows how Mums are suffering in the recession
They bring you into the world, they nurture and care for you, so you would think they deserve significant recognition on 'their day'. But it would appear Mums are another victim of the UK's woeful economic climate, with the traditional gift of flowers slowly being caught up by chocolates as the number one gift this Mother's Day.
Even with amazing deals and discounts on flowers from the likes of Interflora, it appears children can't afford to spoil their Mothers with a staggering £55 million being spent on chocolates and £45 million on cards* with flowers, although still number one, dropping to £136 million - a drop for the second successive year.
But if you are a Mum in Stevenage you could be in luck, as that is the town in the UK with the most prolific number of visits to the Flower and Gift category on online shopping sites in the UK.
Simon Bird, General Manager of Savoo commented, "The UK is a green fingered nation of flower lovers, but it seems a shame Mums won't get what they really want this Mother's Day - even though there are some great deals and offers to be had on flowers right now."
But it's still a busy weekend for The Royal Mail; in 2012 they handed out over 11.5 million items of mail and this year that is expected to go up by 2.3%. So while Mum might not be getting Roses, Tulips or Sunflowers, it looks like she will be getting something. And, as we all know, it's the thought that counts!
