For winner, Paula H from Cardiff, who won the Lakelovers Facebook prize draw in February 2015 and enjoyed it in October, being catered for by the famous chef was the showstopping ingredient of the dream holiday prize.
Peter Sidwell is co-judge and presenter on the hit daytime TV series, Britain's Best Bakery, with 3-4 million viewers per episode. Peter's own TV series, Lakes on a Plate, on Channel 4, was also hugely popular with great reviews.
The delectable prize, in partnership with Lakeland, included a three course experience; First up, a week's stay in a choice of Lakelovers properties. Paula selected Mungeon Barn, a luxury eco-friendly barn conversion with some serious 'wow' factor, set within 400 acres of prestigious south Lakeland estate, which was enjoyed by the party of eight.
Next up was a 'home delivered' three hour My Personal Sanctuary spa treatment, enjoyed without even having to leave the comforts of the cottage.
This experience was followed by the showstopper, a private dinner party cooked by the celebrity TV chef, Peter Sidwell, also at the cottage.
And what vital ingredient is needed for all good chefs? "Good knives. Good oven," said Peter with a twinkle in his eye, clearly having enjoyed cooking in the Mungeon Barn kitchen, where he treated guests to a very 'MasterChef' three course menu of 'Black Treacle salmon' followed by 'Fillet of Cumbrian venison' and 'Chocolate and orange mousse', with Peter's very own 'Lakeland gingerbread' for dessert, showing off the exquisite culinary skills of a superstar TV chef.
This left space for the final part of the holiday experience: a trip to Peter Sidwell's award-winning Simply Good Cookery School, Rheged, north Lakes, which really was the cherry on the cake!
Here guests were indulged further with more behind-the-scenes access to Peter's skills and tricks and had a go themselves at the seasonal menu of 'Pumpkin Focaccia', 'Chianti Raisin Bread', 'Walnut and Parmesan pasta' and 'Orange and Lemon Biscotti'. The school aims to "Empower people with techniques and ideas that they can take home," enthused Peter.
The celebrity chef treated his pupils to a cooking break, including 'Root Vegetable Soup', with exciting ingredients like chilli and pickled lemons - some way from the origins of the recipe made by Peter a few years ago for the homeless in Manchester.
Paula and guests were then left to enjoy the rest of what Paula said was, "A holiday to remember for many years to come."
We're pleased to share recipes and tricks from the meal Peter Sidwell cooked at Mungeon Barn on our blog post here.
