Career Camel Becomes a Partner of the Government's Social Mobility Business Compact

Career Camel are delighted to announce their partnership with The Deputy Prime Minister's Social Mobility Business Compact (SMBC), a vital campaign to ensure that all young people across the UK, regardless of their background, have fair and open access to employment opportunities.

Currently, the income and social class of parents has a huge bearing on the opportunity available to a child. The privately educated account for more than half of the top level of most professions, including high court judges where 70% were privately educated, even though just 7% of the population attend independent schools^[1].

To help rectify the lack of social mobility, Career Camel and 19 other organisations have partnered with the Business Compact which has already seen over 150 employers sign up from a range of industries and sectors, with employers that sign up committing to a fair and inclusive recruitment process.

Career Camel, sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), is a central platform offering career advice, further education guidance and access to thousands of opportunities from apprenticeships through to graduate jobs. The team behind the site are committed to ensuring that all young people have fair access to the necessary information to make informed decisions about their future.

Michael Foote, Career Camel's Managing Director, explains why he and his business partner wanted to develop the free service: "Whilst looking through student CVs in my previous role, I noticed that the majority had simple spelling mistakes and decided that something needed to be done to try and fix this. Initially, Career Camel was designed to be a tool to help young people create an error-free CV, but since then has evolved into an extensive careers portal, providing a range of advice, guidance and opportunities for young people along their career journey. Equally, companies can use the site to advertise employment and experience opportunities or become the face of their industry through sponsorship.

Since the launch of Career Camel, at the beginning of this year, over 500 career advisers from schools and universities across the country have registered with the service and in some instances the website has been incorporated into school curriculums.
