Car Hire Insurance Customers Paying Out Due to Complicated Jargon
LONDON, September 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Customers are wasting hundreds of pounds buying more than one policy due to the confusing jargon used in insurance policies reveals Car-hire-insurance.co.uk.
The car hire insurance specialist found that many customers were unsure of what cover was needed when travelling and were particularly confused by the exclusions found in a number of policies.
Whether the insurance is included in the price or has been purchased separately from the rental company, customers need to confirm that are covered for the three main areas of risk:
- The first is for injury or damage caused by the driver to third parties - this is often called liability or third party liability insurance.
- The second is for loss of the rented vehicle, most typically caused through fire of theft.
- The third is for damage to the rented vehicle itself - this is usually called Collision Damage Waiver.
It is important for customers to be aware that if they are driving a hire car without insurance in one of these categories or if the insurance is inadequate, then the renter has the legal liability and would need to pay all the costs following theft or an accident.
Ben Simpson of Car-hire-insurance.co.uk said: "Many customers are unaware that policies such as Collision Damage Waiver are often likely to exclude damage to certain areas of the vehicle including tyres, wheels, undercarriage, windows and even the roof. These are all areas easily damaged even in minor accidents.
"These gaps in insurance cover can understandably generate concern for car hire customers. A lot of our customers contact us after researching alternative options to ensure they buy a policy that increases the level of liability cover, includes excess insurance and covers customers for damage to those areas of the car that the rental company may exclude.
"We recommend car hire customers research their insurance options and shop around to get most comprehensive cover for their trip, which will hopefully put a stop to holidaymakers wasting funds by purchasing multiple policies."
