Budget 2013: "Air Tax Rise Will Affect us all" says eRentals.co.uk
LONDON, March 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Leading car hire supplier eRentals.co.uk has criticised the Government's decision to increase Air Passenger Duty, confirmed in today's budget and revealed it supported ABTA's call for a halt to any further increases in the levy.
In the run up to the budget, ABTA's Chief Executive Mark Tanzer wrote to the Chancellor George Osborne calling on the Government to take action in four key areas:
- A halt to any further increases in Air Passenger Duty
- Strategic infrastructure support, including supporting capacity expansion at airports where it is needed
- Addressing squeezed consumer spending power and encourage additional spending on the annual family holiday
- Cutting red tape, including making sales of travel insurance by travel agents and tour operators exempt from regulation
Briony Fairbairn of eRentals.co.uk says: "The UK's tax on flying is already one of the highest in the world so it is disappointing to know it will increase again this year and next year. Although the cost is a specific aviation tax, any rise affects the industry as a whole, not just the airlines, but companies like ourselves. It's becoming more of a struggle for families to be able to go on holiday and travel abroad."
