LONDON, December 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Sweatband.com,the UK sports & fitness equipment superstore has announced a surge in traffic to its website during the festive Christmas break.
As would be expected, website traffic levels were subdued in the final days before Christmas day as shoppers flocked to the high street having passed deadlines to get presents delivered before the big day. However, in late afternoon on Christmas day, the volume of visitors to the Sweatband.com website started to surge with the vast majority of visitors browsing and researching fitness equipment.
Maz Darvish, CEO, said: "Typically, January is the month in which interest in fitness equipment peaks. Invariably, getting fitter and healthier is one of the top New Year's resolutions and this leads directly to a surge in interest. The surge that started on Xmas day, however, was totally unexpected. It would seem that many people were working out how to burn off the Xmas lunch by researching treadmills, elliptical cross trainers and exercise bikes, rather than being slumped on the sofa watching TV!"
"I suspect that the real reason for this surge in interest is actually financial. Xmas is an expensive time for most families and with the general financial difficulties that most consumers have faced in the last year, many will be thinking of replacing the gym subscription with some home fitness equipment." continued Darvish.
The increased interest in fitness equipment has continued throughout Boxing Day as well as the Tuesday bank holiday with all UK regions generating increased traffic.
