LONDON, November 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie have helped Nike Golf become the game's most fashionable brand, according to research from OnlineGolf.co.uk, one of the UK's largest online retailers of golfing equipment and accessories.
OnlineGolf.co.uk surveyed nearly 700 golfers for their views on fashion in the game. Nike Golf came out top, Swedish all-weather brand Galvin Green was the second most sought after label, while Adidas came third.
Nike Golf signed Rory McIlory in January 2013 as its latest brand ambassador, joining golf superstars Tiger Woods, Michelle Wie and Suzann Pettersen as part of 'Team Nike'. English golfer Paul Casey, who is also sponsored by the Oregon-based brand, won the Irish Open in June.
The research found that over a third of golfers (35 per cent) felt that looking good will improve their game. Younger golfers are more fashion conscious with almost half (46 per cent) of players between 16 and 24 agreeing.
Pat Foley, Head of e-commerce at OnlineGolf.co.uk, said: "Golfers are becoming increasingly fashion conscious out on the course and understand the importance of well-designed, functional apparel in helping their performance.
"Rory McIlory is now a household name and one of golf's most recognisable players. There is no doubt that his profile has helped to cement Nike Golf as a leading brand in the sport and support its standing among young players."
