- 52 per cent of HR professionals see leadership as the number one long-term trend impacting the workplace over the next 3-5 years
- Cost reduction is the second longer term trend preoccupying HR Leaders
- Business performance and strategic HR is one of the top business priorities for 59 per cent of respondents
- Leadership development is the top investment priority for senior HR executives
In anticipation of a highly successful European HR Directors Business Summit, WTG Events announces the findings of their pre-Summit survey, involving 226 senior HR leaders, and unveils the key challenges and priorities HR professionals are faced with. Over 85 per cent of the respondents were Senior Managers in their organisations, with 15 per cent of those holding CHRO of CLO positions.
Reinforcing last year's results, leadership is once again considered the key trend impacting the workplace (52 per cent) and leadership development activities rank 1st on the current short-term priorities list.
To no surprise, 45 per cent of the HR professionals asked, voted cost reduction as the runner-up priority - a figure reflecting the turbulent European economic climate and the volatility of diverse markets.
Findings also revealed a 9 per cent increase in senior level ownership compared to last year, with 80 per cent of respondents indicating that that their responsibilities currently span across all areas of HR.
When asked about individual development, 39 per cent of the respondents indicated the ability to "create a culture of innovation" and "inspire employees" as the main areas they wish to improve upon.
In terms of short term business priorities, senior professionals deem Business Performance & Strategic HR, Change Management & Transformation, Employee Engagement & Leadership Development to be the top four on their list with Social Technologies appearing last on their agenda.
The report also points to Leadership, HR Technology and Training & Development as the main HR investment areas with an average of €3m per respondent currently forecasted as being allocated to HR specific projects.
Headlining the list of the most admired companies, Google, Apple, Virgin, John Lewis, Innocent and McDonalds remain the "rock stars" of HR Management and Development with Microsoft, Amazon, Coca-Cola and Facebook entering the top 10 Pantheon for the first time.
